russian river pliny the younger

Pliny the Younger IS Coming...
"Like" us on Facebook for updates

Pliny the Younger, the man, was Pliny the Elder’s nephew and adopted son.
They lived nearly 2,000 years ago! Pliny the Elder is Russian River's Double IPA, so they felt it was fitting to name their Triple IPA after his son.
It is almost a true Triple IPA with triple the amount of hops as a regular I.P.A.
That said, it is extremely difficult, time and space consuming, and very expensive to make. And that is why they say they don’t make it more often!
This beer is very full-bodied with tons of hop character in the nose and throughout. It is also deceptively well-balanced and smooth.

mikkeller tap takeover
1000 ibu frelser ris a la m'ale chipotle porter

Starts Saturday, 21st at Noon. We will be tapping:

A few things about Mikkeller.
It's not an actual brewery in the traditional way of looking at things. Mikel is a gypsy brewer, so they rent out space in other breweries and collaborate with other brewers. Most of their beers are brewed at De Proefbrouwerij in Belgium, but they've done a few in Scotland at Brewdog and are beginning to brew at Drakes in California.

Even though, they're an extremely young brewery (they were only founded in 2006), they are becoming known as one of the top breweries in the world and have a reputation for pushing the limits of nearly every style they take on. In their first year in business, they were named the best brewery in Denmark and the fifth best brewery in the world.
We hope you enjoy!

  • "1000 IBU" Imperial IPA 9.6%
The purpose of this project was to brew a beer with an impressive IBU that at the same time was relatively easy to drink. That is exactly what Mikkeller has done with this beer. Because – believe it or not – this beer is actually very well balanced. Residual sweetness contrasts nicely with the bitterness from hop. The name IBU 1000 refers to the theoretical IBU of this beer. There are physical limits to how much bitterness beer can soak up.

  • "Sur Munk" Sour Wild Ale 9.9%
A blend of a sweet quadruple and an extremely sour and spontaneous fermented lambic.
The label, which portrays 3 sour monks in an old car where the back seat passenger is holding a lighted Molotov cocktail out the window. Mikkel says," The monks are mad, they are raging.
They are on their way to punish the one who spiked their sweet quadruple with a blend of sour ale. Psst – it was Mikkeller who did it.  Don’t tell the monks!
    "

  • "Frelser" Triple Bock 11%
Frelser means Savior in Danish. The name is a subtle reference to all Bocks Mother: Salvator.
Originally the monks brewed Salvator because they needed a very strong and rich beer during Lent. Malty dark fruit nose of rum, raisins, cherries. Rich, sweet flavors of toffee, molasses, earth, toast, dark and light fruits. Warming.

  • "Ris a la M’ale" 8%
Uses all the ingredients of the Danish Christmas dessert, "Risalamande" - rice, vanilla, sugar, salt, cream and then cherries and almond extract. The result is a slightly tart ale, which must provide the counterpoint to the sweet risalamande-dessert.

  • "To Via From" (Til Via Fra) Porter 8%
A Christmas porter. It is sweet, warm and soft like black velvet. Brewed with spices that can make anyone in Christmas mood. Star Anise, Clove, Cinnamon, Coriander Seeds, Pale, Smoked, Cara-Crystal, Brown and Chocolate Malts, Roasted Barley, Dark Cassonade Sugar, Amarillo, Saaz and Cascade Hops, Yeast.

  • "Monks Brew" Quadruple 10%
During Mikkeller's travels through Belgium, they were inspired by the country's anti-commercial, independent Trappist breweries. From these enchanting, traditional, classic breweries Monk’s Brew arose. It is a dark Belgian ale with a dominant yeast character and deliciously malty body. Well-balanced and distinguished, the beer's characteristic high alcohol content never takes over, and the beer is amazingly smooth and drinkable.

  • "I Beat yoU" Imperial IPA 9.75%
(Notice the upper case letters – IBU.) The beer features Herkules (a German hop variety that is only a few years old), Centennial, Warrior, Amarillo, Simcoe and Columbus hops. Big on pine hops, with some malt sweetness to follow.  As it warms a bit, citrus flavors appear.
Almost tropical fruit flavors.  Hops taste fresh!

  • "Texas Ranger" Barrel Aged Chipolte Porter 6.6%
This is a result of their Chipotle Porter being aged in a Speyside Whiskey Barrel.
Interaction between the American hops, malt, the complex structure and the warming chili and notes of vanilla from borubon barrels, makes this porter a very special and very complex beer.

  • "Simcoe" Single Hop IPA 6.9%
The first in their new series of single hop IPAs. Brewed with Simcoe, known from many great US micro-brews. An extremely fresh-hopped IPA. Ingredients : Water, malts (pilsner, cara-crystal and munich), hops (simcoe) and yeast.

  • "Santa's Little Helper" Belgian Style Dark Ale 10.9%
This version of Mikkeller's Christmas beer has been in rum barrels for several months. The result of that process is that this classic Belgian beer now has fine notes of wood, dried fruit and Caribbean rum.

    & Friends:

  • Nøgne-ø "Winter Ale" 8.5%
A dark ale brewed specially for the Christmas season, with a rich, complex taste of caramel. This is a strong, dark and rather sweet Christmas Beer. This brew is very dark in colour with abundant cocoa and chocolate flavors up front and slightly charred malt and roasted coffee on the back. The alcohol comes through as it warms, along with dark raisin fruits. The body is creamy.

  • Beer Here "Hopfix" IPA 6.5%
Hopfix is a copper colored India Pale Ale brewedwith rye and copious amounts of hops.

  • To Øl "First Frontier" American IPA 7.1%
The result is a refreshingly dry, fresh and bitter IPA, heavily dryhopped with the three American hop varieties warrior, simcoe and centennial, a punch of citrus, peach and grapefruit.
A bit of caramel malt; merely to harness and balance the alcohol.
