kings day holland

April 25th - Beers from Holland Tap Takeover!
Don't Forget to wear your Orange!

Since 1890, The Netherlands has celebrated “Queen’s Day” to mark the birthday of the Dutch Monarch. Called Koninginnedag in Holland, it’s a day of celebration and of course, Dutch beer!

But as of 2013, the Queen has abdicated to her son Prince (now King) Willem-Alexander.
So this year we will celebrate King’s Day for the first time in  more than 130 years!

On this one day a year, Dutch citizens are allowed to have open sales in the streets—flea markets—without permits or taxes. The result is that most people are either buying or selling, everyone is outside and everyone is in the mood to party. Orange clothing, banners, and artwork is everywhere.

We will be tapping:

Holland's Trappist Brewery - La Trappe's Quad, Dubbel, Isid'or, Witte & Bock

Urthel's Saisonniere & Hop-It

And Tons more great beers!

Join us for a Night Celebrating Chimay
- April 9th - 4 pm -
Flights of Chimay Red, White & 150th Anniversary Blue!
Keep the Glass & More Giveaways!

Chimay is an authentic Trappist beer.
That means that it is brewed within the walls of a Trappist monastery under the control and
responsibility of the community of monks, and whose revenue is devoted to social service.

Fire and Blood has a deep, dark red hue with a persistent, creamy off-white head.
Aromas of ripe fruit, raisins, malt and slight spice, followed by a slightly floral and spicy hop character.
A fruity, sweetish malt taste gives way to faint drying provided by the hops and rye.
Underlying flavors of raisin and prune from the ancho chilies give way to a balanced malty and spicy finish.

Drake's Hopocalypse Release!

This seasonal Double IPA threatens all notions of what is “hoppy” with a clean malt base and imposing quantities of American hops. Maddening hop aromas of grapefruit, guava,
and dank pine saturate the palate as a touch of balancing malt and spicy Rye keeps the sharp clean bitterness in line.
We will be tapping other Drake's Brews along side this specialty that we love!

The time is here, please read this message carefully. This SUNDAY (2/23) at Noon The Encinitas Ale House will be Tapping Russian River's "Pliny the Younger" only for those who have bought a prepaid card (which are now sold out).

With your pre-paid younger card, you are guaranteed one to enjoy at any time on Sunday (12 - 9),
if you do not have a gift card on Sunday than no younger, no exceptions.
Again, if you do not have a prepaid card on Sunday than you will not be able to get a glass on this day.

Please everyone, be nice and be honest and share the love of this beer. For those of you who love the madness or did not get a pre-paid card, we'll be opening the doors at 4 pm on Monday for all to enjoy Younger, no tickets needed. Cheers!

Russian River's description of:

The beer: "Pliny the Younger is categorized as a “triple” IPA, simply meaning that it is higher in alcohol and has tons of hops. The alcohol should finish at about 10.25%, although it is remarkably dry for the amount of malt used in the recipe, and it is loaded with hop flavors, bitterness, and aromatics. The hops used in this year’s recipe are of excellent quality from the 2013 harvest: Simcoe, Warrior, Chinook, Centennial, Amarillo, and Tomahawk. We brewed Younger for the first time 10 years ago as a winter seasonal, building upon the Pliny the Elder recipe while pushing the envelope with malt, hops, and alcohol just to see how far we could go!"

The Man: Pliny the Younger was the nephew and adopted son of Pliny the Elder. He was a lawyer and an author in Ancient Rome and witnessed the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD, which took the life of his uncle. He lived from 61 AD to 112 AD. He wrote many letters which survive today and have great historical value. We thought it appropriate to also pay tribute to Pliny the Elder’s nephew by naming this special beer after him!

Friday, February 14th
Tapping Lost Abbey's "Framboise de Amorosa" @ 4 pm

lost abbey

Framboise de Amorosa begins as Lost and Found ale and is sent into freshly emptied red wine barrels. The beer spends over a year in the wood during which time it is spiked with three additions of raspberries.

The first sip produces a sweet start with a long drawn out sour finish.
Some of the sweetnewss from the raspberries comes out before acidic notes join the mix. On the back end of the beer is a smoothing oak character which keeps the beer from becoming dull.

Tasting Notes:

AROMA: An over stated French Raspberry. Amorosa beckons from the first splash in the glass.
She is juicy fruit from the vine.

TASTE: The first sip is a sweet start with a long drawn out sour finish.
Some of the sweetness from the Raspberries comes out before a smooth acidic notes join the mix.
On the back end of the beer is a nice smoothing oak character which keeps the beer from becoming dull.

Wednesday, February 12th @ 6pm

meet the brewer

Please join us on Wednesday, February 12th at 6:00 pm for the honor to meet Albert de Brabandere from Brouwerij De Branbandere - Belgium.

We are a huge fan of his brewery and are thrilled to have him spend some time with us. We will be tapping quite a few of his beers.

Some of his beers that we will be featuring on draft are:

Petrus Aged Pale - This beer has an old gold to bronze color, rather than the burgundy more common in the breweries of West Flanders. This is the ‘mother beer,’ used in various quantities to blend with the other Petrus beers, and to give them their unique and very distinctive taste. This mother beer is rather sour with a bite like the best Brut Champagnes. A connoisseur’s delight!

Petrus Aged Red - Constructed from a base of Double Brown Ale. 15% Petrus Aged Pale is added to provide a dry character to the brew and give it a slight sour essence. Finally the brewer adds fresh cherries, which are evident in the rich thick head. Petrus Aged Red is a perfect blend of sweet and sour with a cherry
undertone which makes this brew remarkably drinkable.

Petrus Oud Bruin Sour Ale - Dark ruby red. Created by a secret blend of the aged and sour ‘mother beer’ with fresh brewed beer, this beer produces a sour-sweet balance, set off by the underlying bitterness of the hops. A discovery!

Petrus Winter 9 - A beautiful medium bodied Belgian brown mixed with deep flavors of cinnamon and nutmeg. The contrasting yet complimentary tastes of caramel complete this bold brew.

Bavik Premium Pils - Bavik Premium Pilsner, is considered one of the best Belgian Pilsners, and is certainly one that survived the onslaught by Interbrew-Labatt, which tried, and still tries to take over as many Belgian breweries as possible, to shut them down and to stop brewing their beers. This beer has been brewed since the creation of the brewery in 1894.

Wittekerke Wit - A very pleasant drink, light in alcohol with a crisp and refreshing flavor. Wittekerke is always served cold, but in taking your time to enjoy it, you will find more flowery and spring flavors towards the end of your glass. Although the hoppy bitterness is an underlying taste, it is never dominant.

RUSSIAN RIVER's "Framboise for a Cure" Tapping

This year, you won't have to take a trek up to Santa Rosa (although it's pretty amazing) if you want to do something good and at the same time have a glass of the super rare & delicious beer, "Framboise For A Cure! The Encinitas Ale House will be hosting a Russian River "Framboise For A Cure" Fundraiser on Oct. 21st at 3pm (we will be opening one hour earlier than normal). 100% of the proceeds of the keg, "Framboise For A Cure" will be used to help those in Russian River's community in their fight against breast cancer!

Russian River's "Framboise for a Cure" starts with 20% Sonambic (Beatification) and 80% Temptation. Temptation is a Blonde Ale aged in Chardonnay barrels with brett, lacto, and pedio. This sour barrel-aged blonde ale has 30 pounds per barrel of fresh raspberries to make a beautiful reddish/pink beer! Nicely balanced with sweet raspberry and tartness. Wednesday 10/9 - Almanac Brewing Wet Hop Tapping
hops

We love fresh hop beers. Every autumn, hop bines all over the west coast explode with aromatics cones of lupulin deliciousness.
To celebrate the hop harvest, Almanac has brewed three Fresh Hop IPAs that highlight three hop varietals and celebrate the fine art of organic hop cultivation. The three featured hops are Cascade, Chinook & Cluster

Try these three single-hop IPAs side by side to experience a single Northern California "hop appellation", encompassing a wide range of hop flavors and aromas. Each beer is brewed with an identical malt base and hop addition schedules, creating beers where the overall bitterness and aromas are determined by the character of the specific fresh hop used.  The fresh hops add a layer of grassy, herbal depth not available anytime except right now, during the peak of the hop harvest.

We are HUGE fans of Knee Deep Brewing! We were lucky enough to get a keg of their newest "MEPS" beer, "Hopoholic" a Quadruple IPA!!! Tapping will be on Monday, April 22nd at 4pm. We will also be featuring a Knee Deep Bottle Night, you can try 5oz of four of their IPA's (below: Citra, Hoptologist, Hop Shortage & Simtra) for $10

MEPS is Knee Deep’s Monthly Experimental Pilot Series program.  Every month Knee Deep brews a small, 15 bbl. brew of something crazy and different, something one of our fans contributed, or simply anything the brewmaster wants to brew.  If one of our fans contributes a beer idea/recipe we will invite that person to come to the brewery and brew the beer with us at the Lincoln, CA brewhouse. The contributor will also be intitled to take some of the finished beer home.

Ommegang & Brasserie D'Achouffe Tap Takeover

We will be Tapping, two very special, rare beers as well as more from
Ommegang & Brasserie D'Achouffe!

Ommegang Game of Thrones Series "Iron Throne" Blonde Ale

Brewed with a robust amount of pils, honey malt, aroma malts and red wheat. Gentle hopping includes Styrian Golding and Hallertau Spalter Select, appropriately noble hops. Spiced with grains of paradise and lemon peel. Hue is a slightly hazy golden amber. Head is full and fluffy. Finish is crisp, backed by a touch of spice and hops. Aroma is a bit grassy with a hint of lemon fruitiness from the lemon peel. Taste is lightly malty, rounded out by honey malt sweetness.

Ommegang Game of Thrones Series "Iron Throne" Blonde Ale

The cheerful gnomes of Belgian farmstead Brasserie d 'Achouffe dropped by the Brewery Ommegang farmstead brewery. Gnomegang is a rich, translucent gold, with a big, fluffy white head. The high-carbonation is readily apparent. The nose focuses on distinctive clove aromas, combined with yeasty fruitiness typical of Chouffe beers. Flavors include ripe fruit, clove, light caramel, non-cloying candy sweetness, smooth maltiness, and well-balanced hopping. Mouthfeel offers a big, round body with full, fine carbonation. The finish is dry and warming, lingering gracefully.

mikkeller tap takeover
1000 ibu frelser ris a la m'ale chipotle porter

Starts Saturday, 21st at Noon. We will be tapping:

A few things about Mikkeller.
It's not an actual brewery in the traditional way of looking at things. Mikel is a gypsy brewer, so they rent out space in other breweries and collaborate with other brewers. Most of their beers are brewed at De Proefbrouwerij in Belgium, but they've done a few in Scotland at Brewdog and are beginning to brew at Drakes in California.

Even though, they're an extremely young brewery (they were only founded in 2006), they are becoming known as one of the top breweries in the world and have a reputation for pushing the limits of nearly every style they take on. In their first year in business, they were named the best brewery in Denmark and the fifth best brewery in the world.
We hope you enjoy!

  • "1000 IBU" Imperial IPA 9.6%
The purpose of this project was to brew a beer with an impressive IBU that at the same time was relatively easy to drink. That is exactly what Mikkeller has done with this beer. Because – believe it or not – this beer is actually very well balanced. Residual sweetness contrasts nicely with the bitterness from hop. The name IBU 1000 refers to the theoretical IBU of this beer. There are physical limits to how much bitterness beer can soak up.

  • "Sur Munk" Sour Wild Ale 9.9%
A blend of a sweet quadruple and an extremely sour and spontaneous fermented lambic.
The label, which portrays 3 sour monks in an old car where the back seat passenger is holding a lighted Molotov cocktail out the window. Mikkel says," The monks are mad, they are raging.
They are on their way to punish the one who spiked their sweet quadruple with a blend of sour ale. Psst – it was Mikkeller who did it.  Don’t tell the monks!
    "

  • "Frelser" Triple Bock 11%
Frelser means Savior in Danish. The name is a subtle reference to all Bocks Mother: Salvator.
Originally the monks brewed Salvator because they needed a very strong and rich beer during Lent. Malty dark fruit nose of rum, raisins, cherries. Rich, sweet flavors of toffee, molasses, earth, toast, dark and light fruits. Warming.

  • "Ris a la M’ale" 8%
Uses all the ingredients of the Danish Christmas dessert, "Risalamande" - rice, vanilla, sugar, salt, cream and then cherries and almond extract. The result is a slightly tart ale, which must provide the counterpoint to the sweet risalamande-dessert.

  • "To Via From" (Til Via Fra) Porter 8%
A Christmas porter. It is sweet, warm and soft like black velvet. Brewed with spices that can make anyone in Christmas mood. Star Anise, Clove, Cinnamon, Coriander Seeds, Pale, Smoked, Cara-Crystal, Brown and Chocolate Malts, Roasted Barley, Dark Cassonade Sugar, Amarillo, Saaz and Cascade Hops, Yeast.

  • "Monks Brew" Quadruple 10%
During Mikkeller's travels through Belgium, they were inspired by the country's anti-commercial, independent Trappist breweries. From these enchanting, traditional, classic breweries Monk’s Brew arose. It is a dark Belgian ale with a dominant yeast character and deliciously malty body. Well-balanced and distinguished, the beer's characteristic high alcohol content never takes over, and the beer is amazingly smooth and drinkable.

  • "I Beat yoU" Imperial IPA 9.75%
(Notice the upper case letters – IBU.) The beer features Herkules (a German hop variety that is only a few years old), Centennial, Warrior, Amarillo, Simcoe and Columbus hops. Big on pine hops, with some malt sweetness to follow.  As it warms a bit, citrus flavors appear.
Almost tropical fruit flavors.  Hops taste fresh!

  • "Texas Ranger" Barrel Aged Chipolte Porter 6.6%
This is a result of their Chipotle Porter being aged in a Speyside Whiskey Barrel.
Interaction between the American hops, malt, the complex structure and the warming chili and notes of vanilla from borubon barrels, makes this porter a very special and very complex beer.

  • "Simcoe" Single Hop IPA 6.9%
The first in their new series of single hop IPAs. Brewed with Simcoe, known from many great US micro-brews. An extremely fresh-hopped IPA. Ingredients : Water, malts (pilsner, cara-crystal and munich), hops (simcoe) and yeast.

  • "Santa's Little Helper" Belgian Style Dark Ale 10.9%
This version of Mikkeller's Christmas beer has been in rum barrels for several months. The result of that process is that this classic Belgian beer now has fine notes of wood, dried fruit and Caribbean rum.

    & Friends:

  • Nøgne-ø "Winter Ale" 8.5%
A dark ale brewed specially for the Christmas season, with a rich, complex taste of caramel. This is a strong, dark and rather sweet Christmas Beer. This brew is very dark in colour with abundant cocoa and chocolate flavors up front and slightly charred malt and roasted coffee on the back. The alcohol comes through as it warms, along with dark raisin fruits. The body is creamy.

  • Beer Here "Hopfix" IPA 6.5%
Hopfix is a copper colored India Pale Ale brewedwith rye and copious amounts of hops.

  • To Øl "First Frontier" American IPA 7.1%
The result is a refreshingly dry, fresh and bitter IPA, heavily dryhopped with the three American hop varieties warrior, simcoe and centennial, a punch of citrus, peach and grapefruit.
A bit of caramel malt; merely to harness and balance the alcohol.
